Ballinahown-based businesswoman Helen Conneely is celebrating major success this week after being named Jewellery Designer of the Year for her Meso range, at the prestigious Irish Fashion Innovation Awards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] staged by Goldenegg Productions in Galway last week. The distinctive jewellery range,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], first launched in 2009, draws inspiration from the bog and features beautiful wood dating back thousands of years with other materials in striking contemporary designs.
Speaking to the Westmeath Independent this week, a delighted Helen Conneely from Celtic Roots in Ballinahown said the award was a great boost to the profile of the Meso range, which was featured among the other short-listed eight finalists at a special fashion[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] show on the night in the Radisson Hotel, Galway."They are organic, natural pieces," she observed of the large tribal pieces on the catwalk last week, which got the approval of judges at the high profile event sponsored by Galway Now/Limerick magazines.
"It's about wearing something very natural and very precious," she enthused, adding that the inspiration for the range came from traditional bog jewellery from the 19th century.
Meso fuses new with old, ancient bog wood over 5,600 year's old with freshwater pearls, leather, sterling silver, oxidised sterling silver and onyx beads, to create a unique modern look. "It's about using something rooted in the traditional and then[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] doing something very contemporary with it...it's a jewel that's unique to the midlands and Ireland," Helen said.The awards boost is just the latest good news for Helen Conneely and the Meso range, having also recently graced the catwalks of London in a collaboration with well known Irish designer Joanne Hynes.
