Yet Another Armed Robbery Tuesday Night—This One On Chestnut-2
Robbery Arrest
On Jan. 21 at about 2:45 p.m, police had gone to Kings Supermarket on Valley Road after a pedestrian was struck by a car during a robbery. Police spoke to the store's manager, who said an employee had been hit by a red Hyundai Elantra with New Jersey license plates. Police also spoke to the victim, who said he hadn't been injured.
The employee told police he was in the store’s parking lot when he noticed two men with a shopping cart full of rock salt. He stated that he observed the pair appearing to be in the process of loading the rock salt into the Elantra without having paid for the items. He approached the males and asked if they had any intention of paying for the items, but the pair left the shopping cart when they were confronted and ran into the vehicle. The employee, a 50-year-old Garwood resident, attempted to stop the stop the fleeing vehicle by placing himself in front of it, but the vehicle accelerated and struck the employee before fleeing the area. The pair was unable to place any of the rock salt into the vehicle before they fled the area. Twenty containers of rock salt, with a total value of $200, were found on scene.
As a result of an ongoing investigation, detectives identified Michael Corsi as the driver of the vehicle. Corsi [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 58 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of Toms River, was taken into custody at the Toms River Police Department on 1/26/11. He was transported to the Montclair Police Department and charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and aggravated assault. Bail was set at $150,000.
Arrest
On Jan. 27 at about 3:25 p.m., police responded to a single-family home on Forest Street on a report of a disturbance resulting from an argument between a resident and a neighbor. The complainant told police that the neighbor, later identified as Anthony Huddleston [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was intoxicated and screaming profanities at her.
Police on scene learned that Huddleston had warrants for his arrest; specifically a warrant out of Montclair with bail set at $2,691, a warrant out of East Orange, with bail set at $1,000 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a warrant out of Union Township with bail set at $957, and a warrant out of Irvington with bail set at $304. Huddleston was taken into custody.
While at headquarters, police discovered that Huddleston was in possession of the debit card of a person whom he could not identify and a crack stem. Huddleston, 54, of Montclair, was additionally charged with receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail for these charges was set at $2,500.
Theft Attempt
On Jan. 27 at about 4:15 p.m. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], police responded to an apartment complex on Valley Road in Upper Montclair on a report of damage to a coin operated dryer in the basement of the complex’s laundry room. An employee of the complex told police that sometime between 8 p.m. on Jan. 26 and 3 p.m. on Jan. 27, the Whirlpool dryer, valued at $1,100, had been damaged and that it appeared that the suspect had attempted to remove the coin box from the machine. The box was not able to be removed by the suspect, but was left damaged and inoperable. It is unknown if the laundry room had been locked prior to the incident. There are no suspects at this time.

Theft
On Jan. 27 at about 6 p.m., police were sent to a single-family home on Hawthorne Place on a report of a theft. The complainant stated that she utilized her snow blower on Jan. 26 at about 8 p.m. and left it on a platform on the east side of her home. At about 6 a.m. the following morning [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the victim noticed that the snow blower was missing. There are no suspects at this time.
The snow blower is described as a gray and red Sears Craftsman 3-4 speed snow blower valued at $500. Anyone with further information is asked to contact Detective Ricky Singleton at 973-509-4722.
Vandalism to a Motor Vehicle
On Jan. 28 at about 1;25 a.m., police went to Claremont Avenue on a report of a vandalism to a car in progress. Upon arrival, police spoke to the complainant [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who said he pulled into his driveway at about 1:15 a.m. and saw two people spray painting the fenders of a Ford Econoline box truck parked in a nearby driveway. The words were found to be spray-painted in red and appear to read “cyrus 1”.
Both people fled north on Pine Street towards Walnut Street prior to police arrival and were not located. Both suspects are described only as 5’10” and last seen wearing winter clothing and dark colored coats.

Burglary Attempt
On Jan. 28 at about 3:40 p.m., someone tried to get into a house on Grove Street. The resident told police that at about 3:30 p.m. a man opened opened her unlocked glass storm door and tried to open the adjoininglocked front door that allowed entry to the inside of the home. After the suspect found that the door was locked, he left the property and walked north on Grove Street and east on Stephen Street. The suspect then stood at the corner of Grove and Stephen and began looking at cars passing on Grove, as if he were waiting for a car.
The suspect is described as a black man [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 5’8”, approximately nineteen years old, and last seen wearing a black “du rag” and a black button-down jacket over a possibly gray shirt.

Drug Arrest
On Jan. 28 at about 6:30 p.m., police were sent to Eagle Rock Way on a report of a suspicious car occupied by four people. Upon arrival, police observed a blue Toyota Corolla pull away from the side of the street and leave the area at a high rate of speed. Police stopped the car in the area of Stonebridge Road and Eagle Rock Way and detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that one of the passengers [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], later identified as Saad Sunny, was concealing eleven bags of marijuana in his sock. Sunny was placed under arrest while the other occupants of the vehicle were released from the scene. The driver was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to produce a valid registration card.
Sunny [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 21, of Montclair was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute. He was later released.
Shoplifting Arrest
On Jan. 29 at about 12:15 p.m., a shoplifting was reported at the Pathmark in the Lackawanna Plaza Mall. Upon arrival, police spoke to an employee who said he saw a man, later identified as Darrell Johnson, gathering up nine packages of meat and placing them in his backpack. Johnson then proceeded to exit the store without paying for the groceries, which had a total value of $116.15. He was detained shortly thereafter and arrested.
Johnson, 42, of Montclair [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was charged with shoplifting. He was also found to have warrants out of Elizabeth, with bail set at $580, and Newark [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with bail set at $500. He was later released.
Theft
On Jan. 29 at about 1:25 p.m. [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a theft was rporeted at the Grove Convenience Store on Grove Street. Upon arrival, police spoke to the victim, who said he had arrived in the store at about 12:30 p.m. to cash in a winning lottery ticket worth $58.50. The victim said he left the ticket on a counter while he checked other winning numbers that were posted in the store. While the victim was doing this, a man entered the store and stood near where the victim had left his winning ticket.
Moments later [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the victim went to retrieve his ticket and discovered that the winning ticket was missing. While the victim was searching for the ticket, the suspect left the store.
The suspect is described as a heavy-set black man, 6’0”-6’2”, with a moustache. He was last seen wearing a maroon or brown knit cap and a blue “mechanic-style” jump suit with a hood. It is believed that the suspect was wearing a red shirt under the jump suit.
