Ben Roethlisberger no Super Bowl [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
(Source From: [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] )
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Please excuse anyone who wishes Ben Roethlisberger no Super Bowl success two weeks from now.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] Not making reference to those who swear allegiance to the Green Bay Packers or harbor rivalry-stoked hatred of the Pittsburgh Steelers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but to everyone who otherwise wouldn't care about the outcome.
Let he who is without sin cast stones, sure,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and my hand of many guilts is not cocked to throw. But there is an icky factor in play.
The sexual assault accusation that resulted in Roethlisberger serving a four-game suspension will be part of the story during the run-up to Big Game XLV.
Maualuga miraculously fell to the Bengals in the second round of the 2009 draft and the Bengals wisely capitalized on the opportunity. Since his draft, Maualuga has been a fan favorite and from my vantage point up in the nose bleed section of Paul Brown Stadium during game day,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I've seen the number of fans wearing Maualuga jerseys steadily rise. He was known for his hard hits and tenacious attitude. Maualuga has played well against the run but struggled at times in pass coverage (even though he led all linebackers with two interceptions in 2010). Zimmer said that Maualuga had an "okay" year in 2010 but Pro Football Focus ranks him as the teams best at his position. Maualuga is under contract for the 2011 season.

[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] But will it be theme piece or footnote?Odd, that question.
Substitute, for example, Michael Vick for Roethlisberger and imagine the focus on a dog-killer as a Super Bowl leading man. But with Roethlisberger? Not so much.
It's true that Vick was sentenced to prison for his behavior while the case against Roethlisberger, stemming from an alleged assault of a college woman in a nightclub bathroom last March, was dropped because authorities lacked sufficient physical evidence and the accuser chose not to proceed.
It's possible, too,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that Roethlisberger, as Vick apparently has,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], learned worthwhile lessons from what happened. Maybe he's a better person away from the field. Maybe he's frequenting bars less often. Maybe he's found religion.
(Source From: [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] )Here's hoping.
Jones is undersized for an NFL middle linebacker and turns 33 in February, but what he lacks in size and youth he makes up for in intelligence and football knowledge. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has said that Jones is an extension of himself on the field and Jones has shown it. He's led the team in tackles over the past three seasons and helped bring the defense, which was a constant Achilles heel for the franchise, into a top-five standing in 2009. Even though the defense didn't play to the level that they did last season, Jones still kept the injury ridden defense in the middle of the pack of NFL defenses in 2010. Jones is not under contract for the 2011 season.
Again, though, it'd be difficult to blame anyone who'll cheer for the Packers or root against the Steelers strictly because of Roethlisberger. It'd even be an understandable tilt among what political pundits call the undecideds.
Nor would it surprise me if a majority of NFL bigwigs silently disavowed neutrality because a Green Bay victory might be better p.r. than a Pittsburgh win. The irony of seeing Commissioner Roger Goodell go from handing Roethlisberger a suspension to start the season to handing him the Lombardi Trophy at the end of it would be impossible to ignore.
None of this is to suggest Roethlisberger, if contrite, doesn't deserve forgiveness. There are a lot of folks who already have granted it or never felt he needed it judging by the abundance of Roethlisberger garb worn by fans - many of them women - wherever the Steelers play. (Such certainly was the case in October when Pittsburgh fans,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a good portion of them decked out in No. 7 jerseys, watched the Steelers beat the Dolphins in Sun Life Stadium.)
But this is less about penance than it is about the legitimacy of lingering animosity toward Roethlisberger.
He's an excellent quarterback - one of the best in the game at the moment. He's good enough that a Hall of Fame enshrinement someday isn't out of the question.

[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] onsale He's the kind of tough guy a tough-guy city such as Pittsburgh loves.
No way does Roethlisberger pull what Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler pulled Sunday, missing most of the second half with a sprained knee ligament. Roethlisberger surely would do what Bears fans wish Cutler had done regardless of medical advice, which would be to rub spit and dirt on the knee and get on with things.
Roethlisberger's ferocious football image is well-earned, in other words, and it buys him no small amount of good will in more precincts than Steeler Nation.
The Bengals play a 4-3 base defense so their starting three linebackers are Rey Maualuga, Dhani Jones and Keith Rivers and for the first year since they've been playing together, the three led the Bengals in tackles. Jones led the Bengals for the third year in a row with 86 solo tackles. Rivers was next with 51 and Maualuga finished third with 44 (he also had two interceptions this season). Unlike the rest of the defense, the Bengals linebackers didn't have to deal with many injury issues in 2010. The linebackers who started the season, finished the season. The injury bug did, however, deal quite a blow to the linebackers in the form of inexperienced players helping them out on the defensive line and in the secondary.
Rivers was drafted with the ninth overall pick in the 2008 draft out of USC. His rookie season was ended early because of a hard (and some would say cheap) block from Hines Ward that broke his jaw. Since he's been drafted, Rivers has yet to play all 16 games in a season. He played seven in 2008, 13 in 2009 and 15 in 2010. Many have been disappointed with Rivers' production since he's been a Bengal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he's still young and he's got the size and speed necessary to be a successful NFL outside linebacker. He has consistently improved since his rookie season and moved into a consistent starting role. He's under contract for the 2011 season.
It's interesting, though, that there were reports out of Pittsburgh in the wake of the March mess that the Steelers were at least considering trading their star. Perhaps that was nothing more than spin,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but perish the thought now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of course.
But take anyone with affection for all things Packers or loathing for all things Steelers out of the equation.
And then please excuse all who decide it just feels better to root against Roethlisberger than for him.

This is the most damning statement I have read about the "Goodell era" of the NFL. Mr. Stoda, I certainly hope that this was written for "flavor", and not truly your belief, informed or otherwise.
I've followed Jason Taylor's career cause he is from Pittsburgh (wen to Akron). I grew up near Pittsburgh (and hated the Steelers growing up) and now live 40 miles from Akron.
Taylor was quiet. So I started rooting for Pittsburgh despite feeling like I needed a bath after cause Ben (if not famous) likely belongs in prison. So, please allow this comment to serve as my public apology for hoping they wins another SB...even with the idiot that can't control his thing and won't wear a helmet.
First, after reading his "who cares" commentary, I 'm wondering if Mr. Soda ever had one too many head butts? As to Big Ben and Michael Vick, like so many others, to whom much is given; much is expected. It's not about "he who is without sin, cast the first stone"its about persons who participate in a very public arena that benefits them with endorsements, sponsorship and financial rewards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not to mention the responsibility to NFL conduct and the image portrayed to young people. Go Packers!
clearcut
not charged. enough said. vick did time. he was convicted. big ben wasnt charged. why should it be the docus. this article is irrelevant. im pretty sure the phins would love to have big ben insteas of robo henne as the qb. why even bring this up?
How many Steelers does it take to hold a date for Roethlisberger?ALL the Steelers could hold for Roethlisberger. But it wont save his sack!!!!
Big Ben is kinda slimy or at least was..maybe he has changed. Maybe he's finally figured out he's not in college anymore. . But really... whatever...there's A LOT of emotionally stunted adolescents in the NFL because they NEVER HAD TO GROW UP. by the way,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], what does, finding religion have to do with anything? As if religion was a cure all...wasn't the BTK killer the president of his Church? Religion has no bearing whatsoever on whether someone is good, bad, saved or otherwise.

Linebackers are the quarterbacks of the defense and the defensive coordinator's liaison for the rest of his players. Without a good group of linebackers, a defense cannot be successful against the NFL's current group of talented running backs and strong arm quarterbacks. A list of the greatest linebackers would include Jack Lambert,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Mike Singletary, Ray Lewis and Lawrence Taylor.
Linebackers have a tough job. They need to have the bulk needed to plug holes to stop the run like a defensive lineman while having the speed necessary to drop into pass coverage in both zone and man schemes all while having the ability to read an offense and call an audible if necessary. Imagine how hard it is to play linebacker against a quarterback like Peyton Manning who is always changing the play at the line of scrimmage. A linebacker would need to pay attention and change the play based on what he thinks Manning changed it too. I'm sure it's not easy.
