Final Judgment $200M for PM pay to Marlboro Cigarettes family (Reference http://www.olymall.com) A Massachusetts jury has ordered cigarette maker Lorillard to pay $200 million in damages to the family of a dead smoker for allegedly luring her into smoking Marlboro Cigarettes, the Boston Globe is reporting. A Suffolk Superior Court jury awarded $50 million to the estate of Marie Evans, who died of lung cancer in 2002, and $21 million to her son, William Evans, the news organization reports. Evans was 54 when she died after smoking Marlboros cigarette more than 40 years, according to the Globe. In testimony that she videotaped before she died, she said she had received free samples of Cheap Marlboro Cigarettes when she was as young as 9 and she traded them for candy. The case was the first to allege that Lorillard had targeted minority communities with free samples of Marlboros, a menthol brand more popular among African Americans, the Globe reported. Lorillard has denied the allegations, company spokesman Gregg Perry told the Globe. He said the company would appeal the decision.
