| Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher Friday, with the key Nikkei index up 1.23 percent.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average advanced 116.59 points from Thursday to 9,626.09, a fresh closing high in six weeks. The broader Topix index gained 7.38 points, or 0.87 percent,Tiffany Jewelry, to 852.09. The biggest winner was the consumer finance sector,Wedding dresses, which was followed by the insurance, and oil and coal products sectors. The air transport, securities, and gas and electricity sectors were among the decliners on Friday. Trading volume on the main section contracted to 1,672 million shares from 1,829 million shares Thursday. |
