Rotorua Sculpture exhibition preview
Sculptural works from some of Rotorua's emerging and most successful artists will be on show this weekend to benefit youth in the city.Rotary Club Marble Sculpture of Rotorua Sunrise, with the assistance of curator and artist Trevor Nathan,Google优化, is holding the Rotorua Sculpture Exhibition this weekend and next, with the shores of Lake Rotorua as the backdrop.
This is the second year the event has run and this year money raised will be given to Rotovegas Youth Centre. Last year money was raised for the BayTrust Rescue Helicopter.Mr Nathan said this year the exhibition Marble Sculpture would showcase 92 installations from 32 mainly local artists."We are showcasing as much local talent as possible," he said.Works by successful artist Peter Brierly-Millman will also be shown. He has previously sold a piece for more than $1 million.Other artists, including Anna Korver, Steve Molloy, Chris Moore, Jocelyn Pratt, Joe Kemp, George Andrews and Jamie Pickernell will be showcasing their work alongside emerging artists.
The exhibition will have the freshest and most diverse collection of New Zealand sculptural works seen in Rotorua, Mr Nathan said.The exhibition was about celebrating sculptural work, with both contemporary and traditional works on offer, Mr Nathan said."There will be both traditional Maori Marble Sculpture and contemporary forms, from metal and brass to hard and soft stone - marble to granite, limestone through to glass and wood installations," he said."There will be very traditional New Zealand Maori whakairo (carving) works right through to contemporary forms."The Rotorua Sculpture Exhibition will be held in the La Grouw's garden at 22 Tupara Cres, Kawaha Point on both Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 5pm. It will be held again during Easter Weekend.
